We offer our customers advanced and diverse products and technologies for surfaces with an emphasis on environmentally friendly products such as powder coating resins, halogen and antimony free fire-retardant unsaturated polyester resins, high solids alkyd resins, water-based acrylic dispersions, UV curable resins, as well as waterborne and solvent borne liquid coatings resins.

We are committed to working with our customers to continuously develop environmentally advanced solutions and we are dedicated to open communication concerning the safe handling, distribution, use and disposal of our products.

The company’s extensive product portfolio meets the requirements of a great number of end use markets and the properties of its functional resin products are being employed in a variety of different industries ranging from paints and coatings, adhesives and sealants, cosmetics, printing inks and paper sizing.

Abstract

ECOGEL KRONOS

FoF.NMP.2013-10 Manufacturing processes for products made of composites or engineered metallic materials

High productivity manufacturing process of composite parts based on zero emissions fast curing coatings and heated moulds

ECOGEL CRONOS project aims to develop an innovative and high productivity Resin transfer Moulding (RTM) process by means of the use of i) fast curing “zero VOCs emissions” powder gel coats and ii) electrically conductive hot skin mould technologies based on laminates made of carbon-fiber- plastics (CFP laminates) to mass production parts for automotive and goods transport sector. Different resin modifications will be done to: i) improve developed powder gel-coat adhesion to different resins such as epoxy or vinylester, ii) to develop conductive gel-coats and iii) to improve the thermal resistance (up to 200oC during long time) of the epoxy resins using in the manufacture of hot skins.

Two products, representatives of the advantages of this new production line, will be developed within the project as demonstrators: a fully finished truck part and a composite automotive part ready for E-coating bath painting treatment. Additionally, a full process automatization will be proposed to drastically improve current production cadence (from around 12 parts/day up to more than 40 parts/day).

Epoxy and polyester resins, powder gel-coats and hybrid adhesives manufacturers will produce innovative high temperature resistance resins, powder gel-coats (conductive for e-coating or non-conductive for high quality finishing) for fast curing and hybrid adhesives, increasing portfolio and sales.

Megara Resins is in charge of developing new hybrid adhesives products and introducing them in the market for RTM coated parts in the transport industry.

Success at an international level was achieved by Greek company Megara Resins Anastassios Fanis S.A., producer of polymeric materials for paints, coatings and adhesives which has secured EU funding in the range of 300 k€ after successful evaluation of the proposal FORCE entitled “Formulations and Computational Engineering” which was submitted in the thematic area NMBP-23-2016, Advancing the integration of Materials Modelling in Business Processes to enhance effective industrial decision making and increase competitiveness, of the Call for Nanotechnologies, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology and Production Horizon 2020 framework programme. Horizon 2020 is the funding tool of European Commission for Research and Innovation for the period 2014-2020 and supports the strategy "Europe 2020" by its contribution to moving Europe out of the crisis and laying the foundations for a more sustainable future built on smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.

Megara Resins - Modular Models & Data sets Integration Framework

According to the Research Project Manager of Megara Resins, Mrs. Poppy Krassa, the objective of the project is the development of a Business Decision Support System based on a framework that allows integration of existing and future materials models with empirical formulation data and commercially relevant data. The BDSS generates data-driven formulation options in support of established business practices. The concept of the project is based on the use of existing theoretical and computational tools that enable proposing solutions in the design of industrial processes, so as to avoid the need for costly and time-consuming experimental measurements.

In the framework of the project, Megara Resins will cooperate with big companies such as Unilever, DoW and IBM, the University of Patras, ETH Zürich, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials etc.

Megara Resins is an innovative industrial company, which recognises the need to provide innovative solutions to its customers and continuously developing new products to retain its leadership on the market. Megara Resins actively supports participation in research project over the last three years, having secured EU funds in the range of 1.5 m€.
